constellr Achieves Major Milestone With Successful Mechanical Qualification Test Campaign Ahead Of Q4/2024 Satellite Launch

Freiburg, 28.06.2024 - constellr is delighted to announce the successful completion of one of the most significant and challenging steps towards its satellite launch scheduled for Q4/2024.

Last week, constellr’s mission team conducted the critical Mechanical Qualification Test Campaign, a series of tests designed to simulate the structural stress that the rocket will exert on the satellite during launch. The team is proud to report that all necessary mechanical tests, visual inspections, and a set of functional tests have been completed on time.

“This milestone marks another huge success for the launch of our satellite in October. I´m proud to see the amazing teamwork among constellr but also the collaboration with our partners OHB, Kongsberg NanoAvionics and ESA that enabled the successful mechanical test of our satellite in time.“ says constellr’s CTO Marius Bierdel.

Preliminary Assessment Highlights:

Mechanical test results:

The tests revealed our satellite will withstand the loads occurring during the rocket launch.

Functional tests:

These tests were successful, confirming that the electrical functionality of the subsystems remains intact. A thermal infrared (TIR) capture showed no evidence of failure. After the simulated launch loads a set of functional tests were performed and confirmed not just the mechanical integrity of the spacecraft is guaranteed but also the electrical and optical performance.

A detailed evaluation of all activities confirmed that the test campaign was a complete success.

successful mechanical testing of constellr’s satellite

While the satellite will now undergo full thermal and additional functional testing, the mechanical test campaign certified that the spacecraft could withstand the launch environment, bringing us one step closer to this major milestone.

constellr extends special thanks to the entire mission and satellite systems team and the whole consortium; this achievement results from the dedicated efforts of the entire constellr team and our partners.

Enabled and co-funded by the European Space Agency’s InCubed programme, constellr remains on track to reach its initial launch goals.
