First Commercial Deployment of High-resolution Thermal Infrared Satellite Data in Japan

Tokyo, Japan / Munich, Germany, February 2, 2026 - SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation (“SKY Perfect JSAT”), Japan’s premier space business company, and constellr GmbH (“constellr”), Europe’s leader in space based thermal intelligence, developing small satellites equipped with thermal infrared sensors, today announced the launch of commercial sales of high‑resolution thermal infrared satellite data for the Japanese market. This marks the first time a private company in Japan will commercially deliver such data from  constellr^*.

It introduces a new Earth observation capability for government and industrial users, complementing optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems with object-level activity information. As it begins handling this new data, SKY Perfect JSAT will further enhance its data provision capabilities as a Space Solutions Provider and strive to deliver more advanced solutions that address customers’ challenges.

Thermal infrared satellites enable the detection and precise measurement of heat signatures, providing intelligence-grade situational awareness. This capability supports applications such as monitoring urban heat dynamics, early identification of wildfires and other heat‑related hazards, and assessing the condition of critical infrastructure. It also provides insight into the operational status of ships, factories, and power facilities, contributing to port and maritime security, urban infrastructure resilience, and enabling independent surveillance of industrial activities.

Through the partnership, SKY Perfect JSAT has commenced domestic sales of constellr thermal infrared satellite data, strengthening its portfolio as a Space Solutions Provider. By leveraging its extensive experience and strong customer base in Japan, SKY Perfect JSAT will deliver advanced data tailored to local operational and decision-making needs.

constellr currently operates two high resolution thermal infrared satellites launched in 2025, with a planned constellation of approximately 30 satellites by 2030. This will enable near-real-time global thermal monitoring at spatial resolutions better than 5 meters. The company already serves government agencies worldwide with decision-grade thermal data.

This partnership also establishes a foundation for long-term collaboration between SKY Perfect JSAT and constellr to progressively expand thermal intelligence capabilities and applications over time, addressing global-scale challenges, such as national security, climate change, and natural disasters.
